If you’ve been working from home since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic, like many of us have, it’s very likely that you have a little bit more free time on your hands. Especially if your commute to and from work was riddled with traffic. Whether it’s 15 minutes or 2 hours, why not utilise this time to pamper your skin?
Skin Care Tips for When You’re Working From Home
We’ve prepared some helpful tips on how you can take advantage of your newfound free time to improve your skin care habits:
1. Feet First
We’ve all done it before, shamelessly attended a Zoom meeting in sweatpants or slippers. No problem right, as long as you’re still neat as a pin on top? We dare say it’s safe to take it a step further, and give your feet a little TLC. Your feet deserve to be a dedicated part of your beauty regime. You can alternate between a hydrating foot mask, an exfoliating foot peel, and a foot soak. With this combination of treatments, you’ll wonder why you ever neglected your feet in the first place.
2. Take a Break from Work
When working from home, it’s common to feel guilty about taking a few minutes to unwind every so often. However, it’s perfectly ok to take a short breather if work pressures are becoming a bit too much to handle or you’ve had a bad day. Setting aside time for self care is crucial for your own wellbeing and will help prevent burnout at work. Set an alarm for 15 to 20 minutes so you don’t need to keep track of the time while you are busy. Make yourself your favourite drink – but stick to non-alcoholic drinks during working hours. Then grab your go-to skin care treatment. It can be a face mask, hand scrub, or foot soak – whatever makes you feel pampered. We guarantee you’ll feel refreshed and ready to tackle your work with new vigour.
3. Reap The Benefits of Retinol
Given the fact that you’ll be spending more time inside, why not treat your skin with a concentrated retinol treatment? Seeing as your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight for up to two weeks following a retinol treatment, we recommend scheduling when you know you’ll mostly be homebound. If you must venture into the sun, protect your skin against the harmful UV rays by applying a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. If your skin appears to be a little red afterwards, don’t worry. It’s temporary. Because retinol accelerates the regeneration of skin cells, a little redness is perfectly normal.
4. Ditch the Makeup
Now is the perfect time to give your skin a well deserved break by going makeup-free. Allowing your skin to breathe by going bare faced for a couple of days a week can help unclog pores. Your skin will also be better able to absorb moisturisers and other products. You’ll also be saving time, not to mention money, by not applying or removing makeup as frequently. Which means you might be able to work a foot soak or body scrub treatment into your routine or buy that hair mask you’ve been eyeing.
